I went to a "sip 'n' see" Saturday morning for our friend Ashley and her daughter Caroline, kind of a post-birth baby shower where you actually get to hang out with the baby. Us CG girls got to spend some time together, sans rugrats. It was kind of nice to be kid-free for a change, although most of our conversations still revolved around the babies, and I spent most of the time wondering what Alex was doing. Go figure.
In addition to the shower, we had another fun weekend with Grammy. This time, she followed the newly instituted "24 hour minimum" rule and stayed from Saturday at 11 to Sunday afternoon.mmI was expecting Alex to be down for his afternoon nap when I got home, but I was happy to find that he took a long morning nap and was still up and at 'em, having a good ol' time with Grammy.
We had some errands to run after his afternoon nap, so he had a quick snack and then waited patiently with Grammy and I while his Daddy finished primping.
Soon it was bedtime, so A went to sleep and refueled for the events of Sunday. When he woke up at seven, Grammy went in and got him.
We started the day with a big breakfast.
We were feeling a little guilty about skipping church, so Grammy read Alex some stories from his baby Bible while Timothy and I eavesdropped. That's gotta count for something right?
Grammy got A to get a little goofy for some pictures, which he happens to be a natural at.
After Alex's morning nap, we got his lunch packed up and set off to find some lunch of our own. Vicki had a hankerin' for cheese biscuits, so Red Lobster it was.
It was a beautiful day and we wanted to work off some of those cheese biscuits, so we played outside for a while and Alex showed Grammy how he operates his walker.
As usual, going back uphill went a little less smoothly than the ride down. Grammy tried to encourage him to shuffle up on his own, but Daddy quickly grew impatient and implemented a more efficient method.
Vicki had to head back to Eldo and Alex had to head to his bed, so we said goodbyes and went on our merry ways. This saga is yet to be continued, as we will be traveling to Eldo next weekend. Hopefully Grammy can hold out 'til then...
Ahhh, spring is in the air. Or at least it was today. So while Timothy was at class (poor sap), Alex and I took advantage of the lovely weather and spent some time outside. I'm generally a slob, but I love to organize, so I have been looking forward to some decent weather so I can get back into the garage and start packing some things for our move. As usual, I put Alex in his walker, hoping he would roam around the garage and amuse himself while I cleaned.
It was a good plan in theory, but within minutes, Alex grew bored of what the garage had to offer and was ready to branch out. I needed to get our garbage can from the end of our street (because some sadistic city planner thought it would be a good idea to make the residents of our street hike half a mile to take their garbage out, which is loads of fun, especially in the winter when that river you see running down the drive freezes into a solid sheet of ice, turning Aslan Place into a lawsuit-begging slip-and-slide, which sounds like fun, but isn't so much when you are lugging a stinky garbage bin back and forth in the freezing cold), so A and I set off on our little adventure.
I had to hustle to keep up, cuz when he gets that thing rolling, there ain't no stopping him. I'd say he gets that thing up to 2 or 3mph, easy.
Going down is no problem, but making our way back up the hill tends to present some challenges. Mostly because, on the way back up I'm lugging a stinky garbage can, and it's much harder to redirect the walker should Alex veer too far in one direction. And what's worse, he tends to veer so far in one direction that he is facing downhill again and immediately starts rolling back down at warp speed, so I have to drop the garbage can and book it down the hill to catch up with him and drag him back up, only to start the process over again. Eventually we made it to the top, and by then, the two of us were so pooped that we went inside to rest.
For me, "resting" meant folding laundry and packing up the computer room, while for Alex, it meant taking a two hour nap. When he woke up, we just played in the living room and listened to 90's music on XM radio.
A tried desperately to climb this bin, but it proved to be just a little too high.
Better luck next time, buddy.
After lunch and a second nap, we went to pick Timothy up from school. On our way home, I suggested we stop at the park since poor Timothy did not get to enjoy the fresh air with the rest of us. So we did.
A had fun swinging...
...but as usual, I think he was even more interested in watching everyone else swing.
Before we left, we just had to check one more thing...
Yup, still hates grass.
We've been working with Alex on "what Murphy says", and as we were leaving, he barked at a couple of dogs walking through the park. Coincidence? I think not...
Not that Alex's dancing ability can even touch little Miss Quinn's hot moves, but dancing is his newest thing lately. He can't hear music without busting a move. And he does not discriminate - he has danced to everything, from Fleetwood Mac, to Sean Paul, to Sesame Street. It seems he will have his parents' diverse taste in music.
He was really feeling this Dr. Dog song and decided to bop a little to it. Although his rhythm leaves something to be desired, he did throw in some hand gestures to make up for it. You see, what he lacks in technique, he makes up for with enthusiasm.
Although he often pole dances on the corner of his jumperoo, he was on the wrong end of the room when the urge to dance struck. So instead, he bellied up to the window and did some booty poppin', sans pole of any kind. Oh, and the tune-free yelling you hear is what we've interpreted as his effort to sing along. It seems he has his parents' taste in music, but his mother's voice. Poor boy.
(Btw, I am fully aware that his outfit is atrocious, what with the rolled down britches and the socks on top. But the socks won't stay up otherwise, and the pants are a little too big not to roll, and I'm a little too lazy to change him into something less offensive. I know, I know, what happened to the Sarah you all used to know and love?)
