So, you think he can dance?

I like to think that I have just a little bit of rhythm and maybe just enough grace to consider myself a decent dancer, but I never really stuck with any dance class that I ever took as a kid (although I spent endless hours choreographing dances for my friends and siblings and myself to perform), and I don't know much about the art of dance or how it really should be done.

Nonetheless, I hold a very special place in my heart for the dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance. When Alex was just a few weeks old, the third season of the show had just wrapped up, and Fox was playing marathons of the entire season, starting in the evening and playing throughout the night. I had never watched the show when it was on, but one late night when I was on hour three of bouncing Alex on that dadgum exercise ball, trying to get him to stay asleep, I happened upon that show. And it was awesome. And it made me feel not so miserable about the fact that it was three in the morning, and I had been bouncing my infant for hours just to keep him from waking up, and made it seem like the rest of the world couldn't possibly be sleeping because SYTYCD was on, and how could they sleep when SYTYCD was on?

It was on for a few nights in a row, and I actually found myself looking forward to being up in the middle of the night so I could watch it. And I have been hooked ever since.

Luckily, Tim loves it too, so we Tivo it whenever it's on and watch it when we get a chance. We used to wait until Alex was asleep, but lately, we have been watching it earlier in the evenings. So now, Alex is totally into it, and when it goes to commercial, he yells, "Mo' dance! Mo' dance!" His favorite thing is to try to imitate the dancers, and he is especially fond of the jumping and the spinning. He also spends a lot of time trying to perfect his floorwork, which usually consists of him throwing himself to the floor, then writhing and rolling around, all while trying to keep his eye on the dancers to make sure he is doing it right.

Our favorite move, by far, is this hand-jabbing, robot-inspired thing that is seriously the funniest dance move I've ever seen any kid make. No, really. It seems like he is imitating something he's seen, but for the life of us, we can't figure out what it is. Any guesses?
